“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." -1 Timothy 6:17-18 NIV
Our good deeds should be motivated by a sincere desire to help. For Christians, the issue is not just that we give, but how. “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). And giving gladly rests on the great why of Christian generosity: that Christ himself; our Savior, Lord and Greatest Treasure, demonstrated the ultimate in generosity in coming to save us. “Though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9).
The Bible tells us to be a cheerful giver and not begrudgingly. We are not meant to live hard-hearted or self-centered lives. I want to encourage us all to no longer give from a place that is comfortable, but to stretch our faith and go beyond our comfort zone. In whatever way we choose to give (time, resources, giftings etc.), let us be givers from a "cost m
