For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. -Matthew 6:21
The generous life is a treasured life. A treasure is associated with things of value. Treasures can be also be a place where precious things are stored.
'Your treasure' is probably not the same as your neighbour's. It is yours, whether you possess it or not, because you love it. For what our Lord means here by 'treasure' is not merely money, or material good, but whatever each man thinks best. That which a person most eagerly strives to attain, that which he or she most dreads to lose.
'Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also,' therefore, says Christ, 'lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and steal.' If our treasure is in heaven it is secure.
It's all about the heart. Our heart and treasures are connected. If our treasure is in Christ, our hearts will turn to Him. The heart means love. The heart means the will. If Christ is our treasure, then our thoughts, affections, and obedience will all turn to Him.
