As we think about the word "hope," we typically think about it as a desire for some future thing we are uncertain of attaining; but there is something even more peculiar about Christian hope. Peter calls it "living hope." Living hope is hope that has power and produces change in our lives. This living hope will never end or die but it sustains us as we walk this journey called life. When you have a living hope in Christ, you can deal with your past failures, and present difficulties.
Our hope is only as strong as its source, and our source is God. Our hope is in God and was given to us by God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is our foundation. The resurrection brought us new life, and our new life in Christ can never be taken away. There is nothing that happens in our lives that is ordained by God's sovereignty, and thus, our living hope causes us to persevere.
Our living hope makes us able to stand firm during trouble, knowing that our ultimate reward is not found in this fallen world. Our living hope glorifies God! "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3)
Let's thank God for granting us this hope!
