Balancing Act VII - Balanced Effort
The elements in life that require the most balancing can be divided into two categories; internal and external, however people tend to focus on one more than the other. Last week we spent time focusing on indicators to help us have balance from within; our spiritual intimacy and our character and integrity.
This week, we looked at two more indicators which are our relationships and stewardship over what God has given us. Yes, these are external indicators but they're just as important as the internal indicators to help provide focus and balance in our lives! It's always helpful and healthy to do a check-in with yourself to see if you feel balanced. When was the last time you looked at your relationships or your stewardship?
We are relational beings, and need to build healthy godly relationships. We were created in God's image to belong, serve, worship, and to live in community. In order to have healthy relationships, we need to know who we are in God or else we will get wrapped up in the identity and seek affirmation from others which can only be found in Christ. Our relationship with Christ gives us that security. Pastor Rob shared the types of relationships that we all need. We need a Paul-someone who speaks the truth in love. A Barnabas-one who speaks Godly words of encouragement; and a Timothy-someone who longs to grow spiritually in the Lord. As much as we need these relationships from others, we also need to be a Paul, Barnabas, or Timothy for others. We are called to be God's hands and feet and often, God touches our lives through those around us.
Lastly, we can't talk about balancing efforts without including our stewardship. Giving to God is truly important. When we think we own our resources, we limit our abilities. Recognize that everything belongs to God. He expects us to be a good steward of what He has blessed us with. Faithfulness creates fruitfulness!
Don't allow something that is intended to be positive end up being detrimental or have its consequences. Spend time trying to balance and prioritize the internal and external indicators in your life. This creates a healthy balance so one area is not neglected over another.
