Why do we fast and pray?

There are many reasons to fast and pray; for spiritual renewal, for guidance, for healing, for resolution of problems, and more. Kingdom House is setting out on a corporate fast for those reasons and that we might humble ourselves before God so the Holy Spirit will awaken our spirits, position our church for growth and heal our land according to 2 Chronicles 7:14. We thank you for embarking on this church-wide fast with us and we know God will show Himself in a powerful way in your life throughout the week.

7 Basic Steps to Successful Fasting and Prayer

Jesus implied that all of His followers should fast (Matthew 6:16-18: 9:14.15). For Him it was an expected part of every believer’s life. By following these 7 basic steps to fasting, you will make your time with the Lord meaningful. successful and spiritually rewarding.

Step 1: Set Your Objective

It is important to set goals and objectives that can be reviewed and adhered to throughout your fast. For this fast, Kingdom House will be fasting and praying for 7 days.

Step 2: Make Your Commitment

Pray about the kind of fast you should undertake. We suggest one or a combination of the following types of fasts:

Prayer connects you to God!
Fasting disconnects you from the world!

Types of fasts:

  • Water Only-Drink water only, no foods or other drinks.
  • Liquid Only–Drink liquids only, no foods (avoid decadent drinks and caffeine)
  • Daniel Fast-Eat only fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds and drink only water
  • Media Fast-Abstain from radio, television, videos, video games, online entertainment, etc… (Recommended for all in combination with a food fast; or as alternative for those who cannot fast food due to medical reasons).

Step 3: Prepare Yourself Spiritually

Fasting can be one of the most difficult things to undertake since your body will crave what it is used to having and the enemy will also do what he can to derail you from seeking God. To prepare yourself Spiritually you should:

  • Water Only-Drink water only, no foods or other drinks.
  • Liquid Only–Drink liquids only, no foods (avoid decadent drinks and caffeine)
  • Daniel Fast-Eat only fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds and drink only water
  • Media Fast-Abstain from radio, television, videos, video games, online entertainment, etc… (Recommended for all in combination with a food fast; or as alternative for those who cannot fast food due to medical reasons).

Step 4: Prepare Yourself Physically

Fasting requires reasonable precautions. Consult your physician first, especially if you take prescription medication or have a chronic ailment. Some persons should never fast without professional supervision.
Physical preparation makes the drastic change in your eating routine a little easier so that you can turn your full attention to the Lord in prayer.

Preparation steps:

  • Do not rush into your fast.
  • Prepare your body. Eat smaller meals before starting a fast. Avoid high-fat and sugary foods.
  • Eat raw fruit and vegetables for two days before starting a fast.

Step 5: Put Yourself on a Schedule

For maximum spiritual benefit. set aside ample time to be alone with the Lord. Time in the morning, mid-day and evening should be allotted to spending time reading the Bible and praying. In addition to the leading of the Holy Spirit, a daily prayer emphasis card will be given to you to assist you with your prayer focus.

Step 6: End Your Fast Gradually

When you’re designated time for fasting is finished, you will begin to eat again. But how you break your fast is extremely important for your physical and spiritual well-being. Begin eating gradually. Do not eat solid foods immediately after your fast. Suddenly reintroducing solid food to your stomach and digestive tract will likely have negative consequences. Try several smaller meals or snacks each day. If you end your fast gradually, the beneficial physical and spiritual effects will result in continued good health.

Step 7: Expect Great Results

If you sincerely humble ourself before the Lord. repent. pray, and seek God’s face: if you consistently meditate on His Word, you will experience a heightened awareness of His presence (John 14:21). The Lord will give you fresh, new spiritual insights. Your confidence and faith in God will be strengthened. You will feel mentally, spiritually, and physically refreshed. You will see answers to your prayers
